As Daniel and I have started to get acquainted with one another as well, I feel that I am learning how to make the most of my mentorship. Although there still is some awkwardness between us while communicating (due to my rusty interpersonal skills after learning virtually for about a year and a half), I am sure that it will serve as invaluable practice for me when I have to talk to my colleagues or strangers in the future. I am a firm believer that every second holds an opportunity for growth, which is why I hope to polish my interpersonal skills through the weekly meetings I have with Daniel. Daniel has approached my mentorship with dedication and patience that inspires me to put forth my best effort in developing the concept of my final product and further fueling my passion for aerospace engineering, which is why I feel that it will be very simple for Daniel to work with me to make the rest of the year I spend in the Independent Study and Mentorship program an extremely pleasant and constructive experience. I think I need to take a lot more time to determine how exactly Daniel can help me holistically, so that I do not waste my own time nor his time. To this end, I have created a Google Doc on which I record the details of each meeting between the two of us - to a greater degree of detail than that I enter into the Mentor Visit Documentation Log - which really helps me review what I have learned at each meeting, think about what I need to do prior to next time we met, and ponder about concepts I am either interested in or am confused by. As an aspiring engineer, I think one of my favorite things about the broad field of engineering is documenting my work, largely due to the satisfaction I feel when I look back on my completed work. The Google Doc I mentioned earlier will definitely serve as an ideal way for me to document the growth of my interest in aerospace engineering and the various experiences I accumulate over the course of my mentorship. Going forward, I plan on making plenty more memories in the last year of my high school career even if COVID-19 has plans to ruin it.
